Abstract
Tiziana Grande and Rosa Perrotta, in their essay, review the illustrations of nineteenth-century periodicals through the study of sources mainly held in the library of the Naples Conservatory and the National Library of Naples. They focus on the role of caricature not only as a tool of satire achieved through distortion but also as a litmus test for the success of illustrious figures in the musical milieu of the time.
